Thing 20 and 21

I already have an account with zoho writer. What a great idea. Now I can work on a document at work and if I need to finish it at home It is there. No more worrying about a flash drive. I am wondering if patrons can use this while they are on the public computers. I guess it would be safe because it is password protected. I don't know if the computer would allow it or not. I'll have to check it out.

I like the funbrain site. That would be a good link to add to the children's computers. They have limited access to the internet for Tumble Books. I am wondering if this or a similar site could be added. Hmmm...

Wahoo! I'm done! interesting journey. I learned a lot along the way. I think that it is good to be aware of what is out there. You just never know when it might come in handy. Thanks for all your hard work in putting this together. See Ya!

Thing 19

I am not able to make a book trailer. My work computer is hooked up to a countywide system. Windows Movie maker was disabled by the system. So I cannot access it. I did look at many of the trailers on the various websites. I also talked to one of our interns who talked me through the steps of how I could make a trailer on my own if I needed to. I have a scanner now and I have used windows movie maker at home. So, I feel pretty confident that I could make one if need be. I hope that is satisfactory.

webinar

I participated in a webinar for Parent Place. It was really cool to be able to talk to people across the country. We also had assignments to complete. It was great to be able to do them at our own pace, when we had the time.

podcast

I found a podcast about parenting your teens. Since I have 2, I found that interesting. it was easy to subscribe and add it to my google reader.

goodreads

Gruel and Unusual Punishment (Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery, #10)Gruel and Unusual Punishment by Tamar Myers

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I like reading cozies. They are fun light mysteries. I enjoy the main character. Magdelina is spunky and smart. She can be a little scatter- brained at times but funny.

Thing 12

I have 2 teenagers at home. So, I got introduced to face book through them. I have an account and now I can keep an eye on them. We also have an account here at the library. We use it to advertise and send out invitations to events. Penny has used it to advertise our Concerts in the Park series. We have people from other states coming to our events because they saw it on facebook and twitter. Pretty cool!

Not only is this a lot of fun. But I can think of some fun ways to use this. What kid can't relate to lego people!?!

thing 10

That was fun and easy!

thing 9

We have had some interesting visitors to the library this summer!

thing 8

Wow! We have firefox on our work computers. I usually use Windows internet explorer as my default because I did not know much about firefox. Now that I know... I will definately have to check it out!

We have a wikki for the staff at the library. It is eplkids. We use it for any number of things. I t is so easy to use. It is easy to navigate through, add to pages and comment on. It isa very useful tool. I use it a lot! If you have never used a wikki, you have got to try it out. Way cool! We also hve a county-wide library system wikki called lilly. Also, very useful!

thing 5

i think delicious is a great idea. Now I can have things bookmarked on my work computer, my home desktop and my laptop all in one easy step.

Thing 4

I have an account with bloglines. I think that it could be overwhelming if you have too many subscriptions. But it can also be helpful. It could save you a lot of time surfing the web for topics that interest you. Here you have everything at one location.

Thing three

I feel that there are a lot of new and cool ideas out there to use. I think that it is good to be aware of the kinds of things that are available. I think that you also need to be careful what you choose to use. There are good and bad techno. things out there. You need to choose those things that are important and useful to you and your patrons. There, unfortunately, is not enough time to get involved in everything. You could drive yourself nuts trying to keep up with every new idea that comes down the line. We are a fairly small library but we are trying to keep up with the changing needs of our patrons (library 2.0). It is important to at least be familiar with the new technology so we can answer questions or in the very least not stare at a patron with a blank look when they start talking about something.

Thing one for 21 things

If you look over my blogs, you will see that we did a similar thing at our library in the spring. I learned a lot of new things and I hope to learn some more. We have a blog for the children, teens and adults at our library. I think it is a great way to get info. out to the patrons.

Thing 22 and 23

Net Library:
I already had an account with Net Library. I really like Net Library. I have downloaded books onto my MP3 player. It is fairly easy to use. I like the fact that you do not have to wait for a copy to be available. The list of available books is growing. Another great way to enjoy books.

This has been an interesting adventure. I learned how to do a lot of new things on the computer. I heard of some of this stuff but really did not know how it worked or what it was for . Then I learned about things I hadn't even heard of before. Learning new things is good. Some of the things I will use again and some probably not. And I now know more about the internet than my teenagers, who think they know it all. And that is pretty cool!

Flash mob dance in York, PA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6VRFsSidIc

Here is another fun one a little closer to home.

flash mob dance of the sound of music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EYAUazLI9k&feature=fvw

Some one told me about this some time ago. There are a lot of fun flash mob dances on you tube. I think they look like a lot of fun. That would be so cool to be a part of.

Card Catalog

I already use the card catalog a lot. It is so easy. I was glad to see how easy it was to get to the resources. Now one doesn't have to back out to the library's home page if they want to look something up while researching on the card catalog. Nice!

23 things blog on zoho

I like this web site. I think that it will come in handy. Sometimes I work on a document that I need to work on at home. This will make that job  a lot easier. The toolbar seems to be fairly user friendly. I just have to get use to where things are on this toolbar as compared to Word.

wikki spaces

I was some what familiar with wikki spaces because of using one at work. I can see even more how they can make life easier if you need to gather a bunch of information into one place so that a number of people can read and add to if need be. i did not make the connection to wikkipedia.
I liked the recipe wikki. If only I had time and energy to try out new recipes.

Delicious and Tehnorati

I can see how these websites can streamline searches. I especially like delicious. I work off of more than one computer and I have different things listed in my "favorites." It is nice to have the websites Iuse most listed in one place that I can access no matter what computer I am on.

Kimby

I am excited to learn more about the computer and how to communicate to others through this medium.
